Gweagal Spears - What’s Next?
Over the past few months, our team has been proud to share and celebrate Dharawal culture through a series of significant events and milestones.
Documentary Screenings
Following successful screenings of the Gweagal Spears Documentary – one for Gweagal Descendants and the Delegation, and another for our partners – we are excited to sharing this important history more broadly. If you or your organisation would like to support the build of the Kamay Visitors Centre, where the Spears will be permanently housed and displayed, please click here. Your contribution will help ensure this story is preserved for generations to come.
Award-Winning Exhibition: Mungari – Fishing, Resistance, Return
Together with the Chau Chak Wing Museum, our exhibition Mungari: Fishing, Resistance, Return was honoured with the award for Best Exhibition under the Major Metropolitan Institutions category at the Museums & Galleries NSW IMAGinE Awards. This recognition is not for us – it belongs to the old people who fought tirelessly for the return of these cultural items and to the Gweagal People of the Dharawal Nation. Their strength and resilience made this possible and this award belongs to them.
Dharawal Culture Day – Celebrating 175 Years with Sydney University
On 13 December 2025, we joined the Chau Chak Wing Museum to mark the 175th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Sydney with a special day celebrating culture and community. As part of the occasion, we participated in a meaningful gift exchange: we presented a traditional spear to the Museum, and in return, they gifted us the IMAGinE Award. This moment symbolised respect, partnership, and shared commitment to cultural heritage.
