Celebrating Dharawal Culture at the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS
In August 2025, the Gujaga Foundation proudly partnered with Pont3 to bring Dharawal culture to the forefront of Australia’s premier running event, the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS.
This collaboration offered cultural experiences to thousands of participants, their families, and supporters across the marathon weekend. Gujaga Foundation worked closely with Pont3 to provide cultural advice on Dharawal-speaking clan groups whose lands form much of the marathon course. This ensured respectful representation and meaningful connection to Country throughout the event.
Our involvement extended across a series of key events leading up to the main race, including the Run Club NAIDOC Week event and several events throughout the week leading up to the main race.
These moments created space to celebrate Dharawal culture in front of local, national, and international audiences.
In the lead-up to race day, Gujaga Foundation hosted an interactive and information booth at the TCS Sydney Marathon Running Show that offered visitors an opportunity to learn about the history of Aboriginal people who camped throughout of the lands on which the marathon is held. This activation welcomed runners and visitors from across Sydney, around Australia, and internationally, creating meaningful opportunities to learn about the Dharawal language and ancestors who were instrumental in preserving it.
We extend our sincere thanks to our partners at the TCS Sydney Marathon for their collaboration and we look forward to continuing to build platforms that celebrate and strengthen our culture for years to come.
