wadhangarii
Old Man Banksia

Wadhangarii relates to a Dharawal Dreaming story which explains why the tree looks the way it does and how the flowers and its sweet nectar were created. The vibrant flower attracts many nectar seeking birds and small mammals.
At the peak of flowering, Dharawal people would dip the flower in water and make a sweet drink. The dried out flowers are used to carry fire and the old cobs are used for keeping heat in the fire.
