Dharawal Language and Culture App
On the 30 November 2021 the Gujaga Foundation, through its Dharawal Language Program, launched the Dharawal Language and Culture App.
The Dharawal Language and Culture App has been developed to further progress the reclamation of Dharawal language while capturing cultural knowledge for future generations.
Gujaga Foundation’s Chairperson, Mr Ray Ingrey, who has been involved in the reclamation of the Dharawal language for nearly 20 years, highlights the importance of the Dharawal Language and Culture App “Developing the right technologies to support Dharawal language learning is invaluable in our journey to have people speaking Dharawal on our country” Mr Ingrey said.
The Dharawal Language Program has worked closely with Dharawal Elders, knowledge holders and experts, since the early 2000’s, to implement community-based learning programs for young children and adults within Dharawal Country.
The launch of the Dharawal Language and Culture App is the first step in utilising technology to ensure Dharawal language and cultural knowledge is shared widely throughout Dharawal Country.
“The Dharawal Language and Culture App will help sustain our effort to widen the use and practise of our language and culture throughout our Country and decrease the risk of further diminishment of our rich cultural heritage” Dr Shayne Williams, Dharawal Elder said.
